Kids and Fitness

Fitness exercises for kids can be challenging. Children spend parts of their day sitting in front of the television, and this after a full day at school can be a recipe for obesity in later years.

Fitness games and exercises are actually a good way to help your kids stay active and healthy. For life. Kid fitness over time translates into adult fitness, right?  Young children, especially, need to associate physical activity with play.

Here are some ideas on fitness for children, ages 5 to 12, although preschoolers can benefit as well.

  • Dance to music. Any kind of fast dance gets the kids moving, and the upbeat music lifts the spirits, too. Feel the beat and move the feet! Children need to move, and have fun doing it.
  • Hula hoops and jump ropes can be a lot of fun.
  • Let us not forget the fun race, the wheelbarrow.

As well, there are strength and conditioning activities that will help kids stay healthy and active.

  • Push ups. Whether against a wall, or traditional push ups keep the biceps strong. And for a challenge, have them try a spring push up, pushing up and clapping their hands.
  • Make their legs stronger with squats.
  • The seated row drill will work on back and shoulder muscles.

Help your kids maintain good health and encourage them to take part in physical activity. A fun and engaging way to improve your kids’ overall strength, endurance, and fitness.

Regular fitness improves children’s coordination, and balance. And kids who are physically fit sleep better and are better able to handle physical and emotional challenges.

Children exercising helps reduce the risk of obesity, and related illnesses like type II diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure. They are not only illnesses of the aged population anymore. Young people as well are falling victim. And exercise, regular exercise, helps lessen the risk of these illnesses.

Exercise also releases endorphins, the feel good hormone. Helping the kids be comfortable, and proud, of their bodies. It releases stress and can help boost the child’s self confidence. And we all know that a confident child is a fit child, in both mind and body.

Whether walking, bike riding, hiking, or swimming. Kids fitness is important. Help them get the exercise habit.
